Lou Anne (Lannie) Gwartney graduated from Tulane University in 1989, and then studied English literature at the University of New Orleans for two years before attending Tulane Law School. She graduated twelfth in her class from Tulane Law School in 1995, whereupon she was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif. At law school, she served as a managing editor for the Tulane Law Review, worked as a teaching and research assistant, and was active in the Public Interest Law Foundation.
Upon her graduation from law school, Ms. Gwartney held a judicial clerkship with Senior Judge Nauman Scott of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. She then served as a law clerk for Justice E. Joseph Bleich of the Louisiana Supreme Court. Ms. Gwartney has practiced at several New Orleans area law firms, where she has represented corporate defendants in the areas of products liability, toxic torts, premises liability, and commercial litigation. She now focuses primarily on appellate practice in the Louisiana and United States courts of appeal. She has been admitted before all Louisiana state and federal courts.
